Do you have a slow drain in your bathroom or kitchen sink? Before you call a plumber check to see if only that room has slow drains or if the whole house is draining slowly.
The most commonly clogged drain in your house is the kitchen sink. You can always use a plunger to try and clear a clogged drain, be sure to remove your kitchen basket strainer or your lavatory drain plug before trying a regular plunger. Never put grease down a kitchen drain.
If you see water coming out of the cap next to your kitchen faucet this indicates your dishwasher drain line has become clogged.
The most common cause of a tub/shower drain becoming clogged is hair and soap residue. You might be able to clear the clog simply by removing the tub stopper or shower drain and cleaning it. If the clog persists you can try a commercial drain cleaner. When using a commercial drain cleaner make sure to run water before, during and after using the product.
If you have a strange odor coming from a floor drain you may need to clean the strainer. Remove the strainer or grating cover on the box. Pour hot water through until it is cleaned out.
