Heat Pump Tax Credit

Here at John Nugent & Sons, our phone lines have been busy ever since Congress passed the “fiscal cliff” avoidance legislation on Jan. 2, 2013. The measure reinstated 25C tax credits for highly efficient HVAC and water heating equipment. The legislation retroactively extends the HVAC tax credits that expired in 2011 from Jan. 1, 2012 all the way through Dec. 31, 2013, for qualified equipment listed in Section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code.

Residents of Fairfax, Arlington, Centreville, Reston, and throughout Northern VA are curious as to whether or not their heat pumps qualify for the tax credit.

If you have any questions, call us at 571-877-8859.
Heat Pump Tax Credit of $300

In order to qualify for a federal tax credit of $300, an air source heat pump must meet or exceed a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 15 and a Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) of 8.5. Packaged heat pump systems must meet a floor SEER of 14 and an HSPF of 8. SEER and HSPF are two measures of HVAC efficiency.

We’re very much in the middle of the cold season here in Northern VA—why not take advantage of this $300 tax credit with a new heat pump installation? In addition to this tax credit, a new heat pump could help you see:
